About the School
Opened in 1949, Walter L. Cohen was one of the first public secondary schools for Black students in New Orleans. It was named for Walter Louis Cohen, a prominent businessman and federal appointee born a free man of color in 1860. Today it operates as Cohen College Prep in Central City.
The Green Hornets are famous for one of the most unified alumni communities in the city.
