Established 1973 · Central City, Uptown

Since 1973.

The Scene Boosters have been rolling since 1973, founded by Baptiste Giles and Percy Lewis — the latter a big chief of the Black Eagles Mardi Gras Indians. The club grew out of an earlier uptown group, the Scene Highlight, and quickly became a Central City institution.

Their reputation traveled fast: in 1976 the Scene Boosters were invited to Washington, D.C. to perform at the Smithsonian’s Festival of American Folklife. More than fifty years on, they still bring the footwork to the Central City streets each June.

Central City, since ’73.
