The Black Feathers are a New Orleans Black Masking Indian tribe carrying forward the deep traditions of the culture. Their suits, sewn by hand over many months, honor both the Native American allies who once sheltered escaped enslaved people and the African roots of the community.

On Mardi Gras morning and Super Sunday, the Black Feathers take to the streets in feathers and beadwork, meeting other tribes in song, dance, and display.

They are part of the sacred, secretive world of the Black Masking Indians, one of the most powerful expressions of African American culture in New Orleans.
