Treme · New Orleans
Treme’s Lil Rascals.
The Lil Rascals Brass Band were a crew of young friends out of Treme in the 1990s, led by trombonist Corey Henry. The name came from a member’s mother, who called them “lil rascals” for always making noise and trying to start second lines nobody would follow — until, eventually, everybody did.
They put traditional New Orleans jazz through their own funky filter, and in 1998 released “We Shall Walk Through the Streets of the City.” The band wound down in the early 2000s, but its players went on — Corey Henry among them, who won a Grammy with Rebirth in 2012.
