The Parade

The Lower Ninth Ward Steppers roll under the Big Nine umbrella through the Lower Ninth Ward. The exact route is released before the parade.

Founded in 2008 by a handful of adults and about seven kids, the Steppers are a family-first club that came up in the neighborhood’s post-Katrina recovery.

One Love, Lower Nine.

The Lower Ninth Ward Steppers were founded in 2008 by Minor Wilson, Lisa Porters, Justiner Turner, Durand Williams, Millet Washington, and about seven kids — a family-rooted club born in the recovery years after the storm.

A separate club in their own right, the Steppers parade under the Big Nine’s umbrella — they couldn’t get their own date, so they roll with their Lower Nine family, carrying the “One Love” spirit through the neighborhood.

One love. Lower Nine.
