The Hot 8 Brass Band formed in 1995 when tuba player Bennie Pete merged two younger bands — the Looney Tunes and the High Steppers — into one powerhouse. Their sound is raw, funky, and built for the second line.
The Hot 8 carried their music through real loss and became one of the faces of the culture — featured on HBO’s Treme and famous for their brass-band take on “Sexual Healing.” They have toured the world and stayed rooted in the New Orleans streets.
