It can’t be missed.
The Treme Sidewalk Steppers Social Aid and Pleasure Club was founded in 1994 by Charlie Brown and co-founder Sean Martin, young men from the 6th Ward who grew up flaunting their footwork at Sunday second lines across the city before deciding to bring one home. Their slogan says it all: "We do what we want, they do what they can."
Three decades on, the Sidewalk Steppers are one of the most anticipated parades of the entire second line season. Fans, known as the Sidewalk Nation, travel from around the country for Sidewalk Weekend: the ball, the meet and greet, and then Sidewalk Sunday itself, four hours rolling through the 6th and 7th Wards with Rebirth Brass Band, who came up in Treme alongside the club and have played their parade for years. Now a generational club, the Sidewalk Steppers carry the tradition forward with the flash, the fashion, and the footwork that made them famous.
