Established 1996 · 7th Ward, New Orleans
Built in the 7th Ward.
The Original Big 7 was founded in 1996 in the St. Bernard housing development, deep in the 7th Ward. From day one the club tied its parade to the neighborhood — raising money and lifting up the community that raised its members.
After Katrina the Big 7 became a force for bringing people home, helping rebuild blocks and businesses across the ward. Today it runs youth programs and the Original Little 7 division, passing the culture to the next generation. Their season second line rolls out of Elysian Fields each May.
For the culture. For the 7th Ward.
