Getting Over the Hump.

The Ole & Nu Style Fellas were founded in April 1997 by Sue Press and her family, right in Treme — the oldest African American neighborhood in the country. Sue built the club to mentor the children of the neighborhood, and family has been at its center ever since.

Their very first theme said it all: “Getting Over the Hump,” complete with a camel and brown-and-beige colors, a nod to finally getting the club off the ground. Today the Fellas roll every May behind the Big 6 Brass Band, winding N. Claiborne and St. Bernard through the 6th Ward.

Family, Treme, and footwork.
