The Parade

The Dumaine Street Gang rolls each January through the 6th Ward, around Dumaine and N. Robertson. The exact route is released before the parade.

The club was born outside Claude’s Grocery at Dumaine and N. Robertson, where the founders gathered every day before deciding to stop talking about it and just do it — first parading in 1997.

Dumaine & Robertson.

The Dumaine Street Gang came together in the 6th Ward at the corner of Dumaine and N. Robertson, where the members used to gather every day outside Claude’s Grocery to shoot the breeze. They kept talking about starting a club until finally someone said, “Why do we keep talking about it? Let’s do it!”

The Gang first paraded in 1997, part of the wave of new clubs that revived the second line through the 1990s. Today they roll each January, filling the 6th Ward with footwork behind a brass band.

Why keep talking about it? Let’s do it.
