The Parade

The Furious Five roll each September with the YMO, Uptown. The exact route is released before the parade.

One of the Young Men Olympian’s divisions, the Five were long backed by the Rebirth Brass Band and helped drive the wilder, freer style of the modern second line.

Nobody Out-Dances Us.

The Furious Five is the Fifth Division of the Young Men Olympian — the oldest second line club in New Orleans, founded in 1884. The Five was started by Waldorf “Gip” Gipson and his wife Veronica Royal Gipson, who married the same year they launched the division.

Long associated with the Rebirth Brass Band — who ran with them in the ’80s as they were reinventing brass band music — the Five helped push the second line into wilder, freer moves. Gip built a parade where everybody can make it, money or no money.

Nobody can out-dance us. Nobody has more fun.
