The Big Nine rolls through the Lower Ninth Ward, best known for its Christmas parade with floats handing out toys to neighborhood kids. The exact route is released before the parade.
What started as an all-men’s club now parades as three divisions — the men, the Women’s Division, and the Lower Nine Steppers — all under the Big Nine umbrella.

The Lower Nine Rolls.
The Big Nine was founded in 1992 by Robert Starks, a disciplined Army veteran, and the late cultural historian Ronald W. Lewis — the first club to bring a second line to the Lower Ninth Ward.
Over the years the club grew into three divisions under one umbrella, adding a Women’s Division and the Lower Nine Steppers. The Big Nine is loved for its straightforward routes and big energy — and every Christmas, floats roll through the neighborhood handing out toys to the kids.
