About the School

Alcée Fortier High School opened in 1931 in Uptown New Orleans and was named for the renowned Tulane University professor of Romance languages, Alcée Fortier. It began as an all-boys school. Its teams were the Tarpons, competing in blue and silver, and the school captured a football championship in the 1970s.

Fortier closed in 2006, and its historic building on Freret Street reopened as the secondary campus of Lusher Charter School. For generations of graduates, Fortier remains a proud piece of New Orleans history — and its alumni continue to gather for reunions and celebrations.
