Sarah T. Reed High School opened in 1988 in New Orleans East. It was named for Sarah Towles Reed, a pioneering New Orleans teacher and labor organizer who formed Louisiana’s first teachers’ union for equal pay in 1925.

For decades, Reed has been an anchor for families in the eastern part of the city.
