L.B. Landry High School
Home of the Buccaneers
Algiers, New Orleans • Established 1938 • Royal Blue & Gold
About the School
Opened as an elementary school in 1938 and a high school by 1942, L.B. Landry was named for Dr. Lord Beaconsfield Landry, a physician and activist — the first high school in Louisiana named for an African American.
Rebuilt after a 1958 fire and reopened in 2010 after Katrina, the school merged as Landry–Walker in 2013 and reclaimed the L.B. Landry name in 2021. The Buccaneers remain a proud Algiers institution.
