About the School
Opened in 1932 and named for pioneering social worker and educator Eleanor McMain, the school began as an all-girls school and became coeducational in 1952. Generations of students affectionately call its distinctive Uptown building “The Birthday Cake” for its square shape and candle-like pillars.
The Mustangs remain a proud Uptown tradition.

Notable Alumni
Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) attended McMain in the 1990s as an honor student and drama-club member before his rise to global stardom. In 2022 he hosted a Class of 2000 reunion with former classmates.
