About
Marian Brown became Dallas County's first Black female sheriff when she was appointed in January 2018, then won election that November and re-election in 2020 and 2024. A law enforcement veteran of more than 30 years, she previously served with the DeSoto and Dallas police departments before joining the sheriff's department as a chief deputy.
What the Sheriff does for you
Runs the Dallas County jail, one of the largest in the country, and provides law enforcement across all of Dallas County including the 32 cities within it. Serves court papers, handles warrants, and provides courthouse security. 4-year term, elected countywide.
