The Mayor of McKinney chairs the city council of the Collin County seat. Bill Cox was elected mayor in 2025, succeeding longtime mayor George Fuller. A recall effort against Cox and several council members was underway in August 2026 following a contested zoning vote; he remained in office as of September 2026.
