Founded in 1872 by African Methodist Episcopal ministers, Paul Quinn is the oldest historically Black college west of the Mississippi River. It relocated to southern Dallas in 1990 onto the former Bishop College campus.

The AME-affiliated work college is nationally recognized for its urban-farm program, built on its former football field, and its social-justice mission. The campus is an active, accredited four-year institution.
