Visitor Info

One of the largest known Freedman’s cemeteries in the United States, used from the 1860s into the 1900s as the burial ground for freed African Americans in Dallas. When highway expansion disturbed the graves, an archaeological recovery of roughly 1,150 remains led to the creation of the memorial.
