Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts

Opened in 1922 as Dallas’s first high school for African American students in the historic Freedman’s Town district, it later became the city’s renowned magnet arts high school. Alumni include Erykah Badu, Norah Jones and Roy Hargrove.

The original 1922 building, a designated landmark, anchors the campus alongside a modern arts wing in the Dallas Arts District. It is an active Dallas ISD magnet school, and the historic exterior and district markers are viewable from the public street.
