About

Marian Brown became Dallas County's first Black female sheriff when she was appointed in January 2018, then won election that November and re-election in 2020 and 2024. A law enforcement veteran of more than 30 years, she previously served with the DeSoto and Dallas police departments before joining the sheriff's department as a chief deputy.

What the Mayor does for you

Runs city government day to day — police and fire, streets, sanitation, permits, and the city budget. Appoints department heads including the NOPD Superintendent. 4-year term, 2-term limit. Next city election: 2029.
