Eighth Judicial District Court

The Eighth Judicial District Court is Nevada's largest trial court, with 58 elected judges: 32 civil and criminal departments numbered I through XXXII and 26 Family Division departments lettered A through Z. It handles felony and gross misdemeanor trials, civil suits above the justice court limit, probate and guardianship, and all divorce, custody, child support, adoption and juvenile matters, processing more than 90,000 cases a year for over 2.2 million Clark County residents. Judges are chosen by voters in nonpartisan, department-by-department elections to six-year terms and take office the first Monday of January after their election, with departments staggered so only a portion of the bench is on the ballot in any given cycle.
