The Central District, often called the CD, is the historic heart of Black Seattle. From the mid-twentieth century it was the center of the city’s African American community, home to its churches, jazz clubs, businesses and civil rights movement.

Visitors can walk the neighborhood to see landmarks including the Northwest African American Museum, Jimi Hendrix Park, historic Black churches and the Liberty Bank Building. Self-guided and organized heritage walks highlight its history.
