From the 1920s through the 1950s, the South Jackson Street corridor was the beating heart of Seattle’s jazz scene, home to dozens of clubs where Black musicians shaped the city’s sound. It nurtured legends including Ray Charles, Quincy Jones and Ernestine Anderson.

Visitors can follow the Jackson Street Jazz Trail, a self-guided walking route marking former club sites and jazz landmarks. Interpretive signage tells the story of this era.
