Built in 1913, the Swindall Tourist Inn was one of the few Phoenix lodgings listed in the Negro Motorist Green Book, offering safe accommodation to Black travelers during segregation. Notable guests included touring Black entertainers and athletes.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010, the preserved building has been converted to office and small-business use. The exterior remains viewable as a landmark on the downtown Black heritage trail.
