One of Phoenix’s oldest parks, Eastlake Park was the social and civic heart of the historic Black community that grew up south and east of downtown. It hosted civil rights rallies, church gatherings and appearances by figures tied to the Black freedom struggle.

The public park remains open daily and features a lake, ramada shelters and historical markers interpreting its role in African American Phoenix. It anchors a district that still includes several historic Black churches.
