Founded in 1960 and named for Marcus Garvey, Marcus Books is the oldest continuously operating Black-owned bookstore in the United States. It has long been a hub for Black literature, authors and community gatherings.

The store carries an extensive selection of books by and about people of the African diaspora and hosts readings and cultural events. It is generally open daily, and generations of Black writers and leaders have passed through its doors.
