School Board members set policy, adopt the budget, and hire and oversee the Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the nation’s third-largest district. The seat’s term runs to 2028. Dr. Steve Gallon III resigned effective August 6, 2026 after winning the County Commission District 1 seat. Katrina Wilson and Linda Cothiere advanced from the August primary to a November 3, 2026 runoff; the winner serves through 2028. District 1 covers Miami Gardens, Opa-locka and North Miami.
