Oliver G. Gilbert III

Oliver G. Gilbert III is the Miami-Dade County Commissioner, District 1. County Commissioners are the county legislature: they adopt the budget, pass ordinances, set land use and oversee county services. Four-year term ending 2028, but leaving early. Submitted a resign-to-run resignation effective January 3, 2027 to run for Congress in FL-24 (he won the August 2026 Democratic primary). Dr. Steve Gallon III was elected unopposed in June 2026 to succeed him and is expected to take office in January 2027. District 1 covers Miami Gardens, Opa-locka and North Miami-Dade.
