Historic Black church in Los Angeles, California
Founded in 1943 by Elder Clarence E. Church with a small congregation on Adams Boulevard, West Angeles grew from roughly 40 members to more than 24,000 under Bishop Charles E. Blake, who took the pulpit in 1969. The 5,000-seat cathedral at Crenshaw and Exposition was dedicated in 1999 and is the most visible Black church building in the Crenshaw district. Charles Blake II became senior pastor in 2022. The original smaller sanctuary nearby is still in use for community programs.
