The Leimert Park jazz institution founded in 1989 by drummer Billy Higgins and poet Kamau Daaood, dedicated to African American music and the oral tradition. It runs something nearly every night: drum workshop Monday, jazz vocal Tuesday, the Anansi Writers Workshop Wednesday, the Billy Higgins jam session Thursday, ticketed performances Friday and Saturday, and a Sunday vocal jam. Workshops are five dollars with a no-turn-away policy and the door is cash only.
