Black arts and culture space in Los Angeles, California
Lula and Erwin Washington founded this company in 1980 to give Black dancers in South Los Angeles a professional home, and it has since toured internationally and supplied movement work for films including Avatar. The Crenshaw Boulevard building houses the company, a dance school open to the public, a youth ensemble and a summer program. Its annual Kwanzaa concert and Dance All Day festival are fixtures of the Crenshaw calendar. Drop-in classes are available and the studio is on the Metro 210 line.
