Black history landmark in Los Angeles, California
The 1904 Pacific Electric depot that gave Watts its shape, built after the Watts family donated the land, and a Red Car stop on the Los Angeles-Long Beach line until passenger service ended in 1961. During the 1965 uprising it was the only structure left standing as the stores along 103rd Street burned, and the stretch became known as Charcoal Alley. Restored in the 1980s, it reopened in 1989 as a DWP customer service office with a small history display. The modern Metro A Line stops at 103rd Street/Watts Towers a short walk away.
