Founded in 1976 with early support from artist and collector Dr. Samella Lewis, MAAA is dedicated to the art and artifacts of African Americans and the broader African diaspora. It is one of LA’s longest-running Black art museums.

The free museum shows works from its permanent collection and rotating exhibitions inside the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza. It is generally open Wednesday through Sunday.
