Big Chief David Peters Montana, a member of the Montana masking family who grew up in the Lafitte housing project and masked with the Yellow Pocahontas from 1956 to 2002, founded the Washitaw Nation in 1995 after completing his late father's suit. A retired master jeweler, he named the gang for the ancient mound-building peoples of the Mississippi valley. The tribe masks Downtown and appears at Uptown Super Sunday.
