The Monogram Hunters were founded in 1947 by Allison "Tootie" Montana and friends after World War II, before Montana went on to lead the Yellow Pocahontas. The 7th Ward gang is led today by Big Chief Tyrone "Pie" Stevenson, a Joan Mitchell Foundation fellow, with his son Jeremy "Lil Pie" Stevenson as Second Chief. The tribe comes out on Mardi Gras morning from the First and Last Stop Bar, a 7th Ward gathering place for Indians for nearly a century.
