The Golden Eagles are an Uptown gang led for decades by Joseph Pierre "Monk" Boudreaux (born 1941), who masked with the White Eagles as a teenager and rose from Spy Boy to Big Chief of the Golden Eagles. Boudreaux also sang with the Wild Magnolias for more than 30 years before leaving in 2001, received the NEA National Heritage Fellowship in 2016, and earned a Grammy nomination for Bloodstains & Teardrops in 2021. The tribe's 1988 Rounder album Lightning & Thunder is a landmark recording of traditional Indian chants, and the gang continues to play Jazz Fest yearly.
