theGrio is the Black news, politics, entertainment and culture network owned by Byron Allen, founder and CEO of Allen Media Group. Launched in 2009 and acquired by Allen in 2016, it is one of the largest Black owned news operations in the country and the only one paired with a national television channel.
Services
theGrio publishes daily journalism on politics, culture, health and entertainment, and operates theGrio.TV, a free channel carried on cable, satellite and streaming platforms. It hosts the annual theGrio Awards and holds a White House press credential. In 2022 it absorbed the assets of the shuttered Black News Channel. Parent company Allen Media Group also owns The Weather Channel, HBCU GO, Comedy.TV, Justice Central.TV and Recipe.TV.
