Founded in 1953 by Rev. Albert Cleage Jr., this is the mother church of the Black Christian Nationalist and Pan-African Orthodox movement, famed for its 18-foot mural of a Black Madonna and child. It was a major hub of Black cultural and political empowerment during the 1960s.
