Brandon Johnson is a former middle school teacher and Chicago Teachers Union organizer who served as a Cook County commissioner before winning the 2023 mayoral runoff. He is Chicago's 57th mayor and has focused on worker protections, a higher minimum wage, and neighborhood investment. He grew up in Elgin, Illinois, one of ten children of a pastor.

Runs city government day to day — police and fire, streets, sanitation, permits, and the city budget. Appoints department heads including the NOPD Superintendent. 4-year term, 2-term limit. Next city election: 2029.
