Cherry is one of Charlotte’s earliest African American neighborhoods, established in the 1890s just southeast of Uptown as a community for Black domestic and service workers. It remains a rare intact historic Black neighborhood near the city center.

Visitors can see historic bungalows and community churches, though rapid redevelopment has changed much of the area. It is a residential district best appreciated on a self-guided walk.
