Founded in 1995 by sousaphonist Bennie Pete, trombonist Jerome Jones and bass drummer Harry Cook from the merger of the Looney Tunes and High Steppers brass bands, with roots at Alcee Fortier High School Uptown. Known for a hip-hop-inflected street sound and covers like Marvin Gaye's 'Sexual Healing,' the band lost several members to violence, was featured in HBO's 'Treme' and Spike Lee's 'When the Levees Broke,' and earned a Grammy nomination for 'The Life & Times Of...' (2014). Members contributed to Jon Batiste's Grammy-winning Album of the Year 'We Are' (2022). Co-founder Bennie Pete died in 2021. Founded: 1995 Residency: Sundays at the Howlin' Wolf, 907 S.
