Michelle Wu

The mayor is Boston’s chief executive: she proposes the city budget, appoints the police and fire commissioners and the department heads who run trash pickup, permitting, housing and public health, and names the School Committee. Wu was sworn in for a second four-year term on January 5, 2026, running through January 2030. She was the first woman and first person of color elected mayor of Boston.
