Wheat Street Baptist Church

Founded in 1869, this historic congregation was a major force in Black economic development and Civil Rights organizing along Auburn Avenue. Under Rev. William Holmes Borders it became a hub of activism.

Visitor Info

The church led early desegregation efforts and community development, including affordable housing, along the Sweet Auburn corridor near the King sites. It remains an active congregation.
