Established in 1901, Zion is Tampa’s first African American cemetery. It was paved over and largely forgotten for decades until rediscovered in 2019, becoming a national symbol of erased Black burial grounds.

A historical marker was unveiled in 2025, and the site is being restored and memorialized. Visitors can view the marker and memorial area, which remains a place of remembrance.
