Dryades Street (today Oretha Castle Haley Blvd) was the Black commercial corridor \u2014 where Black shoppers barred from trying on clothes downtown built their own thriving retail street, and where the 1960 Dryades boycott helped light the local movement. Tom Dent, poet and oral historian, made it his work to keep that memory.<\/p>\n
