Claiborne Avenue was a Black main street \u2014 a canopy of live oaks over Black-owned shops, doctors, clubs, the neutral ground where the community gathered. In 1966\u201368 the I-10 overpass was driven straight down it, felling the oaks and gutting the corridor. This dry ros\u00e9 carries that memory: beauty that was here, and the insistence on beauty still.<\/p>\n
